Written By Mohan on Thursday 17 July 2014 | 02:27

The role will contribute to a project to examine employment relations practices, procedures and structures in Britain and France. The project is led by an Anglo-French team comprising researchers from the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR), the Centre d’Etude de l’Emploi (CEE) and the Paris School of Economics (PSE). The project is funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
The project will use comparable linked employer-employee data from the British Workplace Employment Relations Survey (WERS) and the French Enquete Relations Professionnelles et Negociations D’Entreprise (REPONSE) to assess how similarities and differences between the two countries can inform our understanding of labour market institutions and their impact on economic and social outcomes.
The successful applicant will be employed as a Research Officer at CEE in Noisy Le Grand (East Suburb of Paris) for a fixed term of 12 months from 1st October 2014. CEE is a national French public research center dedicated to the analysis of work and employment. Its applied research combines high academic standards with policy relevance.
The Research Officer will analyze the WERS and REPONSE data in collaboration with French researchers from CEE and PSE, investigating issues such as voice and representation at work, work organization, wage determination and worker wellbeing. They will also assist with the technical coordination of the French team. The role will involve frequent liaison with project team members at NIESR, and the successful applicant will contribute to the authorship of a full-length book arising from the project.
Applicants must have strong quantitative analysis skills and knowledge of employment relations issues. Applicants must also be proficient in English and French (spoken and written), to a minimum of Level C1 for English and Level B2 for French according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Applicants will ideally have some experience of using the WERS and / or REPONSE datasets, although this is not essential if they can demonstrate experience of using other large-scale surveys.
Applicants should also have a good relevant degree and a postgraduate qualification in industrial relations, economics or sociology. Candidates should have excellent writing and presentation skills and be able to contribute to publications aimed at both technical audiences and policymakers. The ability to work co-operatively as part of a team and to manage time effectively in order to meet deadlines across multiple tasks is important.
The post is for a fixed-term of 12 months. The role offers an annual salary net of all social contributions of around Euros 24,480 (equivalent to £19,499). In addition, CEE will make contributions to a public pension scheme on behalf of the employee.
To apply, candidates should email a CV outlining their education, employment experience and language proficiency (using the European Language Passport template), along with a covering letter outlining their suitability for the post, and including the names of two referees, to:
Thomas AMOSSE - Email: thomas.amosse@cee-recherche.fr
Colette LEVERNE - Email: Colette.leverne@cee-recherche.fr
Closing date for applications is 5pm (French time) Friday 15th August 2014. Interviews will be held in late August / early September, and may be attended in Paris or London at the interviewee’s discretion.
